When London Fell at Kennington Film Studios

When London Fell at Kennington Film Studios

Back when we were still situated at our studios in Waterloo, we welcomed the crew behind brand new movie, ‘London Has Fallen’ to Studio 1 to capture a series of pick ups.

Due for release in 2016, the film features such Hollywood heavyweights as Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman and is the sequel to worldwide smash hit, ‘Olympus Has Fallen’.

The film opens with the British Prime Minister having passed away under mysterious circumstances. His funeral is a must-attend event for leaders of the western world. But what starts out as the most protected event on earth, turns into a deadly plot to kill the world’s most powerful leaders… dun dun duuuun!

London has Fallen in Studio 1

Unfortunately, for the purposes of the pick up shoot, there were no A-listers present in Studio 1 that day, but there was a rather nice Jaguar suspended from the ceiling against a green backdrop… we can’t say too much more, but suffice to say we will be first in the cinema next year to watch our studios in action!

Check out the trailer and contact us today for more information about any of the studios in our new Kennington set up. With Studio 1 a spectacular 3,500ft², it’s perfect for film and TV shoots of all sizes.

Our namesake Bond film, SPECTRE, releases its first trailer!

Our namesake Bond film, SPECTRE, releases its first trailer!

We were very excited to see the first trailer for the 24th James Bond film unveiled on Saturday.

‘Spectre’, which is set for release later this year, tells the story of a cryptic message from Bond’s past which sends him on a trail to uncover the sinister organisation known as ‘SPECTRE’.

The trailer appears to make reference to ‘Skyfall’, the 23rd Bond film which sees Bond delve, for the first time, into his family’s past. This element of continuity (along with the film’s director, Sam Mendes, who returns to the series after his Skyfall debut) should make for an interesting narrative arc.

Interviews with the film’s production team suggest that the name of the film actually caused something of a dispute in the initial stages of production, as rights issues were raised around the SPECTRE organisation being revived, but, after many years of discussions, it appears the last rights issue has been resolved and we can’t wait to see the latest Bond offering.

Check out the trailer for yourselves, above.

50 Shades of Valentines

50 Shades of Valentines

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching love is in the air; and with romance, comes the day of reckoning. The 13th of February holds us all accountable to our ineffectual love lives over the past year. The day is riddled with questions: who am I spending valentines day with? Who will be my valentine? Why me? Well ladies if you’re in need of a date, have no fear, Mr Grey will grace a screen near you and ease your pre-Valentines jitters.

E. L. James’ novel Fifty Shades of Grey has gone from popular fiction sensation, selling over 90 million copies in 52 languages, to making its debut on the silver screen. Its characters Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey are brought to life by Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. Their onscreen chemistry leaves the audience suspended by the tensions of the narrative. You become a silent observer, experiencing Mr Grey along with Anastasia. I can guarantee women will be flocking to cinemas in their thousands to take a peak.

Many of you couples may be in doubt, but rest assured Fifty Shades of Grey is not only for singles. Author E. L. James has re-released her 50 Shades of Grey Pleasure Line. In the words of Mr Grey, gentleman you can “take control” and make it a Valentine’s night to remember. Let’s hope that maternity wards are better equipped for another baby boom.

Fifty Shades of Grey looks to be a great Valentines treat, and we at Kennington Film Studios would like to wish you all a Happy Valentine’s Day!

Here at Kennington Film Studios we have welcomed guests from a wide range of productions. Our largest studio, Studio 1, is 3,500ft² with drive in access, perfect for any film production. Get in touch today on 020 8106 9464.

James Bond 24: SPECTRE – What’s in a name?

James Bond 24: SPECTRE – What’s in a name?

Kennington Film Studios was conceived as a film production company way back in 1993. We’ve developed a reputation for ourselves as a highly ethical business, working with (and for) charities, implementing the highest environmental standards, and placing corporate responsibility at the centre of our activities from the word go. So it’s rather unfortunate that our good name has been linked to the activities of a global crime organisation headed up by a one Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

SPECTRE is the fictional crime organisation and now the title of Eon Productions’ 24th instalment of Ian Fleming’s James Bond franchise. Blofeld is the villainous genius intent on world domination and SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, and Extortion) is his instrument.

Fortunately Kennington Film Studios’s own global ambitions are somewhat more muted and we can confidently say that not only does our own leader (MD Andrew Greener) not parade around in Nehru-collared suits, or own a fluffy white cat, his pricing strategy for 2015 shows that he’s not interested in Extortion either!  We wish the producers of Spectre every success with the new film and can’t wait for its release on 23 October 2015.

Elstree Film Studios Celebrates 100 years of Film

Elstree Film Studios Celebrates 100 years of Film

A new documentary has been made to celebrate 100 years of filmmaking at Elstree Studios.

‘From Borehamwood to Hollywood’, made by The Elstree Project, features interviews with a variety of Hollywood royalty who have filmed in the Hertfordshire studios over the years.

Stars including Steven Spielberg and Sir Roger Moore appear in the film with footage behind the scenes of ‘Star Wars’, ‘The Dam Busters’ and ‘The Kings Speech’ also featured.

Elstree was even home to the first British talking picture, ‘Blackmail’ by Alfred Hitchcock.

The Elstree Project is a partnership between the University of Hertfordshire and Elstree Screen Heritage, which has compiled various accounts of working on the site from directors, actors and crew in a bid to preserve the studio’s legacy.

Stars of the small screen will also feature in the documentary, as the BBC will be celebrating 30 years at the studios, where it films EastEnders and Holby City.

Here at Waterloo Studios we’re clocking up a slightly tamer 21 years but our Hollywood aspirations are no less great and with our recently purchased Kennington studios now open for business, it won’t be long before we’re hosting the Hollywood greats in our London film studios.

You can find out more about our studio offerings here and watch a thrilling video of the raising of Elstree’s 100 year flag, below. Don’t say we don’t spoil you.
